Dr. Anthony Andrady, one of the leading authorities in the world on plastic pollution in the oceans will present: "The Impact of Plastics on the Health of our Ocean". He will speak about the serious ecological consequences of micro-plastic particles to the marine environment. He will discuss the problems of ingestion of micro-plastic particles by zooplankton, the concentration of toxic pollutants from sea water in plastic and how toxins are accumulating up through the food web.

Dr. Andrady is a senior research scientist at the Research Triangle Institute in North Carolina, an adjunct Professor of Chemical Engineering at the North Carolina State University and serves on the United Nations Environmental Program Committee. His research is concerned with the impact of plastic materials with the marine environment. He has over 100 published research papers in technical journals and has edited/authored three books, including “Plastics and the Environment”.

World Ocean Day is being celebrated with activities worldwide.  It is an opportunity to reflect on the ocean’s importance in our lives, to learn more about the ocean and to take time to do something good for our blue planet.  It’s up to each of us to help ensure that the ocean is protected and conserved for future generations through positive changes in our daily lives.
