Sand Sifters

sand sifter and rake
Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign Hawai`i used sand sifters with bamboo rakes are available for purchase. They are great for picking up those small pieces of plastic that wash up on shore. After sifting out the sand it's best to empty into a 5 gallon bucket first, then when the bucket is full, empty it into the garbage bag.
The size of the box is w=12" x l=12" x ht=6". The bottom is 1/4" mesh wire and has a wood handle.

"I used a sand sifter at Alan Davis beach (next to Sandy Beach) Friday 25th Jan. 2007 and within a half an hour I collected a full 5 gallon bucket of broken glass, rusty nails, and charcoal. I didn't have to use my hands once to pick up those nasty things." Dean Otsuki
