Makapu`u Beach Clean-up - October 2007

B.E.A.C.H. organized the "Make a Difference Day" beach clean-up and litter prevention campaign at Makapu`u beach on October 27, 2008. The litter prevention campaign focused on cigarette butts where volunteers counted the number of cigarette butts collected and handed out BUTTsOUT "butt holders" to smokers (18 yrs. and older). A follow-up clean-up was planned for November 4,2008 to find out if the campaign had been successful in reducing cigarette butt litter

The goal of the cigarette butt litter prevention campaign is to help the environment, save marine life and birds by giving BUTTsOUT "butt holders" to smokers so they will have a place to dispose of their cigarette butts instead of tossing it on the ground.

Participating groups included:
Hawai`i Pacific University Marine Science Club
B.E.A.C.H.
DIS-N-DAT Media Group
U.H. Manoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources
Marianas Club of Chaminade University
