International Year of the Reef launch

B.E.A.C.H. partnered with the Conservation Council for Hawai`i on Friday January 25, 2008 for the launch of the International Year of the Reef displaying marine debris and how it impacts reefs, marine life, and seabirds. Over 25 organizations participated at the State Capitol in this educational event to bring awareness to the negative impacts on reefs worldwide.

Legislators, educators, and students dropped by to see the marine debris display Suzanne and Dean (B.E.A.C.H.) with Marjorie Ziegler from the Conservation Council for Hawai`i Suzanne and Dean in front of the display of plastic taken from the belly of a dead albatross chick from Kure island. The display was designed by Cynthia Vanderlip.
