In honour of World Ocean Day, Suzanne Frazer, Co-Founder of the Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign Hawai‘i (B.E.A.C.H.) will speak about the importance of the ocean and the urgent need to take action to protect it. Suzanne will speak about solutions to plastic - how our everyday choices and actions can make a difference to protecting our health as well as the
environment and marine life. This talk will include information about chemicals in plastic, persistant organic pollutants and the impacts of plastic on marine life and the environment. Come and be inspired and empowered to make simple, easy changes to protect your health and the ocean.

Suzanne Frazer founded B.E.A.C.H. with Dean Otsuki in 2006. Suzanne and Dean volunteer full-time with B.E.A.C.H. They recently received the Astrid and Donald Monson Community Action Award given for outstanding contributions to protecting Hawai‘i’s environment and marine life. In 2008 they received the Living Reef Award which honours groups and individuals that go above and beyond in their actions to make a difference in preserving the reefs.

World Ocean Day is being celebrated with activities worldwide.  It is an opportunity to reflect on the ocean’s importance in our lives, to learn more about the ocean and to take time to do something good for our ocean planet.  It’s up to each of us to help ensure that the ocean is protected and conserved for future generations through positive changes in our daily lives.
